As the fashion industry continues to evolve, brands and platforms are increasingly embracing technology to support more sustainable and community-driven business models. This case study highlights how Hong Kong-based fashion platform The Common Ground is partnering with Size Stream to elevate sustainable fashion through innovative body data technology. By pushing the boundaries of what is possible in apparel, building community, protecting the planet, and delivering high-quality products, The Common Ground is creating a more thoughtful and modern fashion experience. This client spotlight explores how the partnership is helping advance the company’s mission while contributing to a more responsible future for fashion.
The fashion industry, a powerhouse of creativity and cultural influence, can create, drive and sustain trends globally. In recent years, sustainability has gained prominence, inciting a re-evaluation of traditional practices within the industry. Historically, the environmental impact of the fashion industry was extensive, exacting significant water usage, greenhouse gas emissions, synthetic material production, and over-production waste. Exacerbating these issues is the recent rise of fast fashion, characterized by rapid production and seasonal sales of cheap, trendy clothing.
Size Stream and its Hong Kong-based client, The Common Ground, are leading the charge in what is possible for sustainable fashion. As The Common Ground eloquently states on their website:
We provide a space to nurture a sustainable fashion community – making sustainable fashion more accessible to customers. We plant a seed of awareness and provide the ground for it to grow.
— The Common Ground
To achieve its goals, The Common Ground focuses on two primary technologies: Scan-to-Make & Garment-to-Garment. Scan-to-Make leverages Size Stream’s 3D body scanning to measure customers and then configures garments including fabric choices, design, and even personalized monogramming. Size Stream’s AI powered software derives hundreds of body measurements in minutes providing the critical data needed to create custom pieces of apparel.
Powered by Size Stream’s Formcut business, The Common Ground is focused on minimizing unnecessary waste, reducing inventory, and making great fitting clothing that the customer helps design. Garment-to-Garment takes this a step further and involves the recycling and repurposing post-consumer garments into new ones.
The Common Ground’s four core values showcase their commitment to approaching fashion with a forward-looking view. An emphasis on protecting the earth, ethical business practices, cultural development including supporting and sourcing locally, and sustainability; specifically waste reduction and a focus on natural products are showcased in their approach to business.
Size Stream is proud to be part of the retail community prioritizing these attributes, and we look forward to continuing to partner to make sustainable fashion more accessible, and making great clothing along the way.
